West Ham’s 1-1 draw with Bournemouth in Monday’s only English Premier League game could earn Julen Lopetegui a stay of execution, while Wolves court Vitor Pereira and Southampton begin the search for a replacement for Russell Martin.

Pep Guardiola, meanwhile, is hardly likely to be sacked, but he certainly isn’t having a happy time of things lately, but at least he has the support of his squad. Which is where we’ll start this round-up, of what happened while you were sleeping.

Foden still believes

Phil Foden said Manchester City’s players still believed in Pep Guardiola despite a painful defeat against Manchester United, that means they have lost eight of their past 11 games in all competitions.

The defending champions are trailing nine points behind leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand, and have already suffered five league defeats this season – after enduring just three in the whole of last season.

Guardiola said after the game he was “not good enough” as the worst crisis of his managerial career deepened, but Foden said the Spaniard retained the support of his squad.

“We stick together, regroup and believe in ourselves after what we’ve achieved in the past,” Foden said. “We keep believing in the process and the manager – I’m sure if we do that we will get back to winning ways and get back to our level.”

VAR to the rescue

If Julen Lopetegui does ultimately survive, he might want to send a bottle of something nice to the video referee at Bournemouth.
