Potentially exciting news for football fans in Hong Kong was mooted on Thursday as speculation Liverpool could visit the city for pre-season in 2025 grew.
A spokesperson for Liverpool’s Greater China public relations arm told the Post they would not comment until “official decisions are made”.
So while we mentally prepare to possibly see Europe’s form team at the Kai Tak Sports Park, let’s see what else happened while you were sleeping.
Battle of Britain
Tottenham snatched a draw in their Uefa Europa League meeting with Rangers, which does little to ease the pressure on under-fire boss Ange Postecoglou.
The Scottish side took the lead through Hamza Igamane just after half-time and held it until the 75th minute, when Dejan Kulusevski kept his cool to make it 1-1.

Rangers had the ball in the back of the net again near the end, but it was ruled out for offside.
Ex-Celtic boss Postecoglou was given the kind of reception you would imagine at Ibrox but remains under serious pressure as that’s now one win in eight across all competitions.
That victory, bizarrely, was their 4-0 triumph over Manchester City at the Etihad.
United win – just!

Ruben Amorim’s losing streak at Manchester United ended after just two matches, but his side had to work hard for it against Viktoria Plzen.
Andre Onana, arguably his side’s best performer in a torrid campaign so far, dropped a second clanger in as many matches, which allowed Matej Vydra to put the hosts ahead.
But United came back as Amorim’s changes made the difference, with substitute Rasmus Hojlund scoring twice – the second on 88 minutes – to clinch a 2-1 win.
The win puts United into the top eight and an automatic qualification berth with just two matches remaining.
Elsewhere, the stand-out Europa League fixture saw leaders Lazio earn an impressive 3-1 win at Ajax.
Chelsea flying

The least surprising news of the evening was Enzo Maresca’s side winning again in the Europa Conference League.
Chelsea’s B team beat Kazakhstani side Astana 3-1 with all the goals coming in the first half.
Legia Warsaw, the only other side with a 100 per cent record going into Thursday’s set of matches, lost theirs as they were beaten 2-1 at home by Lugano.
Fiorentina, runners-up in the past two editions and largely seen as Chelsea’s main challengers, enjoyed a 7-0 victory over Austrian side LASK.
Finally, could Shamrock Rovers qualify automatically? A 3-0 victory over Bosnian side Borac has them unbeaten and in seventh place. They’re surely guaranteed at least a play-off spot.
Gillespie quits
Pakistan red-ball head coach Jason Gillespie has resigned just two weeks before a two-test series begins in South Africa, the Pakistan Cricket Board said.
Aaqib Javed, who was appointed interim white-ball head coach, will take over as interim red-ball coach.
The Australian is the second foreigner to leave Pakistan’s programme in less than two months. South African Gary Kirsten had stepped down as white-ball head coach in late October.
Gillespie was reportedly not happy after the PCB decided against renewing the contract of high-performance red-ball coach Tim Nielsen.
Gillespie had been appointed in April on a two-year contract. However, the PCB removed the Australian from the selection panel in October.
Body found
Specialist officers searching for missing former England rugby player Tom Voyce have found a body close to where he was swept away while trying to drive across a flood-swollen river, police have said.
Concerns were raised for the 43-year-old ex-wing on Sunday after he failed to return home after being out with friends on Saturday.
His Toyota Hilux was recovered downstream from Abberwick Ford on the River Aln outside Alnwick, Northumberland, and police suspected he was swept away while trying to escape the vehicle.
The river level was particularly high at the weekend when Storm Darragh lashed the UK.
“This is an extremely sad development and our thoughts very much continue to be with Tom’s loved ones,” chief Superintendent Helena Barron, of Northumbria Police, said.
