Multiple Olympic freestyle skiing medallist Eileen Gu has urged fans to not ask for pictures while she is training, offering instead to meet supporters at the lodge after her sessions finish.
Gu recently returned to Cardrona Alpine Resort in New Zealand for training, where fans took photos of the Chinese superstar and shared them online.
On Monday, Gu posted a selfie on social media thanking supporters while issuing a safety reminder.
“I’m excited to be back on snow and grateful for all the love!” she wrote. “I’d like to kindly remind everyone to not ask for photos while I’m in the middle of training.”
She emphasised that freestyle skiing was a high-consequence sport and warned that “unexpected disruptions”, however well-intentioned, could be dangerous.

“I am happy to meet everyone and share the joy of skiing, and will do my daily meet and greet in front of the lodge every day after training ends,” she added, thanking fans for their understanding and telling them to “be safe out there”.
This is not the first time Gu has issued such a reminder. A year ago at the same resort, she updated social media after sustaining an injury during training caused by a “man-made accident”.
The incident occurred just days into her first on-snow training in New Zealand following months of injury recovery.
While her initial sessions had gone smoothly, Gu posted in August last year that “a very scary accident occurred due to human error” and that she had undergone medical imaging tests.
Gu explained at the time that she needed full concentration during training, noting that being interrupted while preparing at the top of the terrain park was particularly dangerous and that she also needed to focus on visualising her tricks while on the chairlift.
She had then also requested that fans refrain from filming or asking for photos during her sessions, and had written: “I am very happy to meet everyone inside or outside the ski resort restaurant after the park closes every day, around 3:30 to 4.00pm. Thank you for your understanding.”
