Wang Liqin, president of the Chinese Table Tennis Association (CTTA), has said that efforts to rectify toxic fan culture in the sport are seeing progress as the national team balances Olympic preparations with youth development.

The former world and Olympic champion is in Beijing for the annual “two sessions” meeting as a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), joined by other sports figures including former CTTA president Liu Guoliang.

On the topic of managing sports fan culture, an issue that has affected top players such as Fan Zhendong, Sun Yingsha and Chen Meng, Wang said: “With attention from the state and the whole society, things should be better than before.”
