Chinese rope skipper Feng Xihui smashed her own world record last Saturday, almost four years after writing her name into the history books.
At the sixth leg of the National Rope Skipping League, which was held in Changsha for the first time, Feng managed 219 jumps in 30 seconds to renew her record in a national event by a single jump.
Huang Sixing finished second with 217 jumps.
With previous legs held in Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Anhui, Guangxi and Gansu, a total of 989 athletes from 76 teams across 10 provinces or cities took part in the Hunan stop of the event.
Asian champions Chen Jiaxin and Chen Dongying, as well as Feng – a national training team member for the coming world championship – were among the elite participants.


Feng, who turns 21 on Wednesday, beat her own record set on July 13, 2021. Second-placed Changsha native Huang was just one jump shy of Feng’s previous world record.
With her win, Shandong native Feng was guaranteed a spot at the grand finals as one of the top three finishers in any event.
Feng, a student at Shandong Tourism Vocational College, could also have the opportunity to participate in the international competition selections for next year and compete on international stages.
Comments on social media, however, were split.
“I could only see the rope at the end of the video when she stopped,” one commentator said.
Another commentator said: “That was some speed. I think I could manage 30 jumps in 219 seconds.”
And another comment read: “The rope is so short, guess I would have hit my head on the third jump.”
One disapproving commentator said: “Sorry, but I think this kind of exercise that hurts your body by bending your back is meaningless.”
Another comment read: “Sports are for health. This is not sports, it is harmful and [may] lead to disability.”
There are two world championships this year. The first one, to which China will be sending a team, is the International Jump Rope Union World Championship, which will be held in Kawasaki City, Japan from July 27 to August 3.
Another championship, under Universal Jump Rope, will be held in Huaian, Jiangsu province, from August 15 to 18.
