Hong Kong-born driver Gerrard Xie racing at Australian Grand Prix as he chases F1 dream
Hitech TGR’s Gerrard Xie makes his Formula 3 debut at Albert Park as he begins bid to follow in Zhou Guanyu’s footsteps

Hong Kong-born Gerrard Xie Yonglin has the opportunity to accelerate on the road towards his dream of racing in Formula One, when he makes his debut in the FIA Formula 3 Championship at the Australian Grand Prix on Sunday.
After a promising youth career that included an F4 title, Shenzhen-raised Xie is gearing up to follow in the slipstream of Zhou Guanyu, the only Chinese driver to have featured on the F1 grid.
Xie, who represents mainland China in Formula 3, is a member of the Hitech TGR team and finished 26th out of 30 racers in qualifying at the Albert Park Circuit in Melbourne on Friday.
The 18-year-old will also compete in a 20-lap sprint race and a 23-lap feature race on the 5.3km (3.3-mile) track.
“Not gonna lie, it was a frustrating day one here at Melbourne, driving my first race weekend in Formula 3,” Xie said in an Instagram post.

“The single practice session started off well, getting adapted to the Albert Park track and building up lap by lap, ending up P21.
