Chinese hurdler Wu Yanni slammed on social media for ‘Photoshopped’ images on Weibo
The controversial athlete Wu uploaded 10 black-and-white images of herself, with a related hashtag viewed more than 40 million times
Olympic hurdler Wu Yanni has been slammed on Chinese social media for posting images on her Weibo page that users complained were Photoshopped to the point where she was unrecognisable.
Wu uploaded 10 black-and-white images of herself to her Weibo account on Sunday. A related hashtag, which said she was following the style of American model and socialite Kendall Jenner, was viewed more than 40 million times.
The 27-year-old Olympian divides opinion among Chinese sports fans because of her outspoken personality, tattoos and make-up. In China, tattoos are prohibited on television, in live streams or in videos on social media.
“Photoshopped to the point where your mum and dad can’t even recognise you, do all foreigners edit their images like this?” one popular comment said.
Another said: “The disguise technique is amazing, I almost thought she was [Chinese singer and actress] Yang Chaoyue.
“No competitions recently, so you have to keep trending somehow?”
