After the 25-year-old’s latest record-setting performance in the pool, this time in the 100m freestyle, the delegation’s medal haul stands at five gold, four silver and 10 bronze in just three days.

Hong Kong’s men had earlier added a fourth gold in rugby sevens, on a day when the city’s athletes combined to bring in seven medals in total.

Minor compared to China’s 53 golds and 95 medals overall, but still good enough to put Hong Kong fifth in the table.

“Siobhan Haughey captured two golds on two consecutive days and the Hong Kong, China men’s rugby sevens team defended their title as champions, demonstrating their extraordinary skills. We are thrilled and proud of them,” Kevin Yeung Yun-hung, the sports minister, said.

Speaking before his weekly meeting with the Executive Council, the city’s leader, John Lee Ka-chiu, hailed the Hong Kong team’s achievements so far, and pointed to the HK$7.4 billion the government had been pumped into supporting their development over the years.
