China’s Zhang Shuai and Taiwan’s Hsieh Su-wei have both made it to the WTA Finals in Guadalajara next month.
Hsieh and partner Elise Mertens of Belgium secured their spot with victory in the women’s doubles at the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells at the weekend.
That was the second title of the season for world doubles No 1 Mertens and Hsieh, the world No 2, after winning at Wimbledon in the summer.
The WTA also confirmed that US Open champions Zhang and her partner Samantha Stosur have secured a spot, as have Nicole Melichar-Martinez of the US and Demi Schuurs of the Netherlands.

Those three duos join the two pairings that already qualified for the event in Guadalajara next month, after it was moved from Shenzhen.
Czech duo Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova and the Japanese pair of Shuko Aoyama and Ena Shibahara had already made their spots certain last month.
Zhang and Stosur double up to reach Cincinnati final
There are three spots left in the doubles, where the eight top teams on the Race to the WTA Finals rankings are invited to the season finale.
The event also sees the top eight singles players battle it out for the solo crown.
Hsieh, 35, is making her fourth visit to the WTA Finals – and she has reached the final in each of her three previous appearances.

The veteran won the crown in 2013 but finished as runner-up in both 2014 and 2019, the last time the event was played.
Last year’s WTA Finals, which were set for Shenzhen, were cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
China’s Xu Yifan would have qualified for last year’s event with partner Nicole Melichar, while the Japanese pair of Aoyama and Shibahara would have made their debut rather than having to wait until this year.
Xu qualified for the 2017, 2018 and 2019 events, the latter of which saw Hsieh partner with Barbora Strycova of the Czech Republic to reach the final. Taiwanese duo Chan Hao-ching and Latisha Chan also qualified that year.
