Manny Pacquiao isn’t done with boxing yet and will return to the ring on April 18 to face former junior welterweight world champion Ruslan Provodnikov in a 10-round welterweight exhibition.
Pacquiao last fought on July 19 against WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios, losing by majority draw. Two of the judges scored it a draw and Max DeLuca awarded Barrios a 115-113 victory.
The loss dropped the 47-year-old’s record to 62 wins, nine defeats and two draws.
“I carry the Philippines with me every time I fight. The support from my country and from fans around the world continues to inspire me,” Pacquiao said in a statement.
“Returning to Las Vegas means so much to me, and I’m excited to work with a team focused on creating a world-class experience for the fans. I’m coming back to give them a great fight – and I’m ready.”
Provodnikov (25-5) has not fought professionally since 2016, losing a unanimous decision in what was viewed as a mild upset against John Molina Jr.
He last fought in December 2021, where he won a split decision in an exhibition bout against former UFC flyweight title challenger Ali Bagautinov.
The organisers of the bout, Indistry Media and Arthur Pelullo’s Banner Promotions, said in a statement: “Manny and Ruslan should have faced each other earlier in their careers, and it’s a shame it didn’t happen sooner, but at least we are getting it now.”
The bout will be at the Thomas & Mack Center, which hosted a number of notable fights in the 1990s before the construction of MGM Grand Garden Arena and then T-Mobile Arena that became the primary homes for Las Vegas’ top matches.
