NBA superstar Stephen Curry made a quick trip to Hong Kong on Monday, and visited a local school where he told pupils that working hard and accepting that sometimes failure happens had helped make him a four-time champion.
Appearing in the city for the first time in 10 years, Curry arrived at Shun Tak Fraternal Association Leung Kau Kui College in Tuen Mun to thunderous cheers from pupils, teachers and a crowd of more than 1,000 onlookers.
The two-time MVP briefly watched a school game, before partnering with several players to take shots from five different spots on the court.
Chatting with several students afterwards, Curry, who some NBA scouts believed was too short and too slender to succeed in the league, gave them tips on how to deal with self-doubt and external pressure.


“You have to understand that’s part of life,” said Curry, who was drafted seventh overall by the Golden State Warriors in 2009. “People are always going to say that you can’t do this, you can’t do that.
“But I just made sure that I had as much fun as possible, and I relied on my work ethic to get me through. I had big dreams, but I worried about just getting better every single day, and then eventually, hopefully, I could accomplish those goals.”
Curry, who has earned a reputation for making crucial and often game-winning shots, also said “it’s OK” to be nervous.
“I still get nervous because if you don’t, that means it doesn’t matter to you,” he said. “But I rely on all the times that I’ve shot the shots that I know that I’m about to go do on the court, and then I’m OK if I miss it, I’m not gonna be happy.
“I know that failure is a part of it. You have to be able to accept what happens out there on the court. But I don’t shy away from those moments because I work really hard for them.

Curry has his entire playing career remaining in the Bay Area, and he urged local pupils to work hard for their dreams.
“You control the work that you put in. You control the energy that you put into whatever you’re doing, not just in sports, but in school, in life,” he said.
“If you can control those things and step good things after each other and be able to put yourself in a position where you’re ready for anything, that is the stuff that people don’t get to see.”
Hong Kong marked the final stop of Curry’s China tour, which started on September 9 and also included stops in Beijing, Dongguan and Shenzhen.
