Young Hong Kong basketball players to get elite coaching in EASL’s Future Champions plan
The programme, in collaboration with the Jockey Club, has also been launched in Macau and Cebu City, with 176 participants across three cities
The government’s decision to postpone basketball betting has not affected the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC)’s push to develop the sport at grass-roots level in the city.
About 100 young basketball players in Hong Kong are set to receive elite training over the next two months, as the East Asia Super League (EASL) tipped off its Future Champions programme this week.
In collaboration with the HKJC, 96 boys under the age of 15, split into eight teams of 12 players, will train together twice a week and as a team for two months.
The initiative was also launched in Macau and Cebu City with four teams of 10 young players in each city.
