Hong Kong basketball star Glen Yang to play for Eastern as local player in 2 regional events
The Vancouver-born player will be playing in Hong Kong for the first time since leaving local A1 Division side South China in 2019
Hong Kong basketball star Glen Yang will again play in the East Asia Super League and the Philippines Basketball Association’s Commissioner’s Cup this season after signing for Hong Kong Eastern and will play as a local player in both competitions.
The well-travelled, Vancouver-born player will be playing in Hong Kong, to which he moved at the age of five, for the first time since leaving local A1 Division side South China in 2019.
The point guard said it was a “perfect situation” for his latest move.
“Everything just lined up perfectly,” he said. “I was a free agent, and was allowed to play as a local player with Eastern in the EASL and the PBA.
“I had never been able to represent Hong Kong at a higher level like this before. It has always been a goal of mine and something I have looked forward to doing – putting this city on the map basketball-wise.”
Yang, who played for the Vancouver Bandits in the Canadian Elite Basketball League this past summer, and previously for the Kaohsiung 17LIVE Steelers in the Taiwanese P. League+, was familiar with many of the current Eastern players, having played for four years in Hong Kong from 2016.
