Those of a squeamish disposition would have been well advised to avert their gaze when Nepal began the Asian Games cricket tournament by inflicting a brutal 273-run beating on Mongolia.

It was a gross mismatch as Nepal racked up 314 for three – the first score of more than 300 in T20 cricket – while batters Kushal Malla and Dipendra Singh Airee claimed individual records.

Malla’s 34-ball hundred was the fastest in T20 history, while Airee crashed 50 in a record-low nine balls. It was no prettier for Mongolia with the bat. Their total of 41 included 23 extras, and only one batter, Davaasuren Jamyansuren, reached double figures.
