Hong Kong’s women returned to the city on Monday having ended their ICC T20 World Cup qualifying campaign with a resounding win over Kuwait, finishing a “fantastic tournament” on a high.

The team’s fourth victory of the competition left them alone in second place, after Nepal were beaten by the United Arab Emirates in Sunday’s final round of matches. UAE finished on top having won all their games, including an 11-run victory over Hong Kong.

Assistant coach Ghulam Saqlain said the side were “very happy even though we didn’t finish first”.

“Those 11 runs against UAE are on everyone’s mind, but I think after so many years, to have come second and it was very close actually, was fantastic,” he said.
