Tourism development: Sanya takes holistic approach to enrich offerings

Sanya is taking a holistic approach to enrich its travel product offerings and achieve a balanced growth between urban and rural areas.

This is in response to the central government’s “all-for-one tourism” initiative to encourage local governments to integrate economic and natural resources to improve the competitiveness and service quality of tourism products and services.

According to the “Sanya All-for-One Travel Development Plan 2016 to 2020” published in December 2016, Sanya will take advantage of its eco-environment to develop a greater variety of new travel products, with the aim of transforming the city from a domestic holiday destination into an international holiday destination.

The city will accelerate the development of products such as duty-free shopping, cruise tourism, low-flying travel, weddings and honeymoons, and health and wellness. It will reinforce the protection of its natural environment, and improve road networks to enable the development of new travel routes.

Tourism development will be carried out district by district. In Haitang Bay, the city will launch a number of health and wellness, and cultural projects, and will increase the district’s capacity to cope with its development into a comprehensive tourist resort area.

In Tianya district, west of the Sanya city centre, a light-rail system is being planned to improve the transport infrastructure of Sanya Bay, and the commercial and tourist districts will be further developed.
