A decade is no short feat, more so in the tech industry at a time when the next best artificial intelligence (AI) model is released every two weeks. Celebrating its 10 anniversary in the fragrant harbour, the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Summit Hong Kong did what it did best, bringing together 4,000+ executive leaders from all sectors, technology innovators and start-up accelerators for an electrifying showcase of cloud innovation on May 8, 2025. From success stories and live demos to hands-on workshops and training booths, over 80 interactive sessions were hosted throughout the day.
Shining the light on big tech that has transformed the world over the past decade, while showcasing cutting-edge innovations that are bound to shape the rest of the 2020s, the activities were curated to help IT novices achieve certification and inspire decision makers to rethink their businesses. The flagship AWS Summit Hong Kong provided an extensive platform to explore topics such as sustainability, collaboration and security amidst an evolving landscape in the tech industry.
From Innovation to Collaboration: Celebrating Another Milestone in Hong Kong

Inviting Ir Tony Wong, JP, the Commissioner for Digital Policy, and Simon Chan, Chairman of Hong Kong Cyberport to take the stage, the three-year partnership not only signifies industry-wide support for cross-sector cooperation, but more importantly, active government endorsement in technology development. Presenting a major step forward in the city's innovation journey, the JIC would focus on four strategic areas: accelerating startup development, driving AI commercialisation, advancing FinTech innovation, and cultivating IT talent.
The JIC joins AWS's global network of over ten similar innovation programs worldwide, including those in Singapore, India, and Taiwan. With the aim to connect Hong Kong's vibrant start-up ecosystem with AWS's global community, the collaborative platform creates substantial pathways for local businesses to scale in overseas markets. With the delightful news opening the summit on a high note, guests were reminded of just how far AWS has come in the region, as it continues to construct the future of digital transformation across Asia.
From Zero to Hero: Creating Building Blocks for Every Industry

“In order to bring big ideas to life, you need more than one building block. The magic happens when multiple building blocks are combined together," Nandini stated. By advancing capabilities in processing, storage, inference and security, AWS allows customers to take advantage of a full host of services and technical support, providing much-needed flexibility and best-in-class affordability when it comes to scaling up.
Highlights of the tech giant’s undertaking include Project Rainier, a new cluster delivering hundreds of exaflops. Powered by hundreds and thousands of self-developed Trainium chips, the size is said to grow by over five times compared to the previous cluster, translating into more intelligence, lower prices, and faster speeds. Another note-worthy feature is the built-in support for Apache Iceberg on Amazon S3, which was said to simplify business analysis with automated metadata management.
However, perhaps more compelling was Nandini’s deep dive into inference capabilities through Amazon Bedrock, which now hosts seven Amazon Nova models specialising in understanding and reasoning, image and video generation, as well as speech-to-speech synthesis. The key differentiator of the AWS approach is the ability to incorporate company-specific data in a wide range of foundation models through retrieval augmented generation, all while ensuring responsible AI deployment with safety guardrails in place.
From Central to GBA: Unlocking North-bound Tourism Potential

The explosive growth in data and transactions presented significant technical challenges for cloud operations, although results of the migration journey proved to be positive. With a 50% improvement in transaction journeys, customers can now enjoy a seamless and responsive experience, all while upholding security priorities essential for financial services.
From Stage to Reality: Continuing the Cloud Journey
Beyond the main stage presentations, the Summit made space for industry-specific pavilions and the largest generative AI experience zone to date, providing practical insights to address sector-related challenges. The program reflected AWS's ongoing commitment to supporting the tech community, offering networking opportunities for both start-ups and C-suite
