Kevin Coon, Vice President of the BMW Group Importer Office for the markets of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, is looking forward to this year’s BMW Hong Kong Derby on Sunday, March 19 at the world famous Sha Tin Racecourse.
“A BMW Hong Kong Derby champion must be well-prepared for the race of a lifetime, and the team behind the horse must stay 100 per cent focused. It is no different for a brand like BMW; that same preparation and focus enables us to stay at the forefront of the global automotive industry,” Coon said.
Contested by Hong Kong’s best four-year-old thoroughbreds, and celebrated for crowning the true champion of a generation, the Hong Kong Derby has long been the race that the city’s racehorse owners yearn to win. The prestige of victory surpasses even the race’s lucrative prize.
With HK$18 million in prize money on offer, the BMW Hong Kong Derby ranks as one of the richest Derby races anywhere in the world.
BMW has partnered with the Hong Kong Derby since 2013 and the regional head of the brand’s importer office has been delighted with the accord the automotive manufacturer enjoys with the Hong Kong Jockey Club.
“The Hong Kong Jockey Club is one of the world’s biggest contributors to the good of the wider community and it also works very hard to drive sustainability, a concept BMW cherishes,” he said.
