A journey of evolution
The RIMOWA Trunk rules airport luggage carousels around the world. A travel icon, the RIMOWA Trunk has been the hallmark of seasoned travellers for as long as any of us can remember. Founded in 1898, luggage manufacturer Paul Morszeck started his business of designing and selling luggage in Cologne, Germany with trunks handcrafted in traditional hard-wearing wood. With its lightweight construction and superior stability, the premium cases quickly became fashionable with discerning voyagers and well-to-do globetrotters.
In 1937, his son Richard Morszeck pioneered the very first aluminium trunk and revolutionised the luggage industry, taking craftsmanship and innovation a step further. The company was consequently named RIMOWA, an abbreviation of his name. The brand got its trademark grooves in 1950 when it took the distinctive design of the world's first all-metal, German-made aircraft with a corrugated duralumin skin as inspiration. These iconic parallel grooves proved to be a long-lasting signature design of all RIMOWA products, and the suitcases’ surface design evolved into a cult favourite among the international jet set.
