As businesses in the Greater Bay Area (GBA) continue to expand across the region, the demand for talent in Hong Kong and its neighbouring cities has grown strongly.

To meet this need, Jobsdb by SEEK, Hong Kong’s leading employment marketplace, has announced a strategic partnership with Zhaopin, China's leading career development platform.

The collaboration aims to enhance talent connectivity between Hong Kong and mainland China, streamlining the cross-border recruitment process. Employers will benefit from increased talent mobility by gaining access to a larger talent pool through cross-border recruitment.

The initiative, called “Powerful GBA Fusion Talent Recruitment without Boundaries”, ensures that job advertisements appear simultaneously on both job boards.

The partnership, which was formalised at the GBA Strategic Collaboration Ceremony, enables Hong Kong and mainland China employers to access and recruit from a diverse pool of candidates in both regions as well as overseas.

Local employers can now choose to post a job on Jobsdb and it will also appear on Zhaopin, reaching mainland talent without the need for repetitive postings on multiple job boards.

Conversely, jobs posted by mainland employers on Zhaopin will also appear on Jobsdb, giving Hong Kong jobseekers greater access to career opportunities in mainland China.

As well as promoting job opportunities, JobsDB and Zhaopin will continue to host cross-border “Virtual Career Fairs”, where jobseekers can learn about the corporate culture of potential employers and participate in online interviews with recruiters.

To build a robust talent pipeline, both platforms will boost their presence on university campuses by hosting recruitment fairs and career talks for students, aiming to connect employers with new graduates whilst preparing them for their future careers.

As business ties between mainland China and Hong Kong strengthen, Hong Kong employers are increasingly seeking talent from the mainland.

According to Hong Kong government data, mainland hires formed the largest group of non-local workers in Hong Kong in 2023, with more than 57,000 approvals, up from 23,000 in 2022.

At the same time, more young Hong Kong residents are pursuing careers in mainland China. Jobsdb’s Jobseeker Salary Report 2024 shows that mainland China has entered the top three most desirable overseas work destinations among Hong Kong jobseekers.

The report shows that 37 per cent of respondents and 45 per cent of those aged 25 and below consider mainland China as their preferred location.

“We are delighted to partner with Zhaopin as the exchange of talent between Hong Kong and mainland China continues to grow. We will use our expertise to enhance the recruitment experience and launch cross-border services,” said Bill Lee, Managing Director, Hong Kong, Jobsdb by SEEK.

“This will expand job opportunities in the GBA for Hong Kong jobseekers and help mainland talent connect with local employers. In this way, we aim to support the Hong Kong government's policy of attracting mainland talent.”

“As China’s economy moves up the value chain and with vastly improved transport links, talent mobility has also increased. The GBA is now a magnet for talent from across the country,” said Felicia Qin, Zhaopin’s regional general manager for the South China region.

Recent Zhaopin data shows a growing interest in Hong Kong opportunities among highly educated jobseekers in the GBA.

In 2024, 64 per cent of PhD holders and 59 per cent of Master’s degree holders expressed their willingness to work in Hong Kong. Zhaopin has over 9 million jobseekers who meet Hong Kong’s talent eligibility requirements.
