Kellogg-HKUST EMBA programme offers lifelong contacts and business lessons
Advice from Kellogg-HKUST EMBA programme alumni saved at least a year of set-up costs, says Arçelik CEO Hakan Bulgurlu

Hakan Bulgurlu is the CEO of Istanbul-based consumer goods manufacturer Arçelik and one of the distinguished alumni of the Kellogg-HKUST EMBA programme, but it took him two attempts to get a place on the course. When he was in his 20s, Bulgurlu left his native Turkey to open a regional office for Arçelik in Hong Kong, and he made his first application to the programme when he was 28.
However, given the programme’s minimum 10-years-work-experience criteria, he had to wait another three years, before he was accepted onto KH07.
“But I think they liked the fact I was persistent,” Bulgurlu jokes.
Once his studies began, Bulgurlu found what he believes is the most diverse programme, at this level, anywhere.
“We had people flying in from the US and all over the world, and what separates this programme from all the others is the level of engagement of the people participating,” he says.
