Hong Kong’s historic Central Market, which first opened in 1842, has been at its present site since 1858. Plans to sell the site for development were met with a public outcry and the government decided to preserve the market instead and give it a radical makeover reopening the Grade 3 listed building – now full of restaurants and small shops – in 2021.
