Student of the Year Award winners set inspiring example for Hong Kong
The awards, which celebrate young people’s achievements, marked their 45th edition, with plans afoot to extend the scheme to the Greater Bay Area
The challenges facing the young are well known, from pressure to perform in examinations to the safe and responsible use of new technology. Children today grow up in a highly competitive environment. It is important to celebrate the extraordinary achievements of those who overcome the difficulties and excel.
There are 40 awards, recognising not only academic excellence but also achievements in diverse fields including art, music, science, mathematics, personal development and community service.
The grand prizewinner this year was Jayden Tang, a Form Five student at Ying Wa College, who founded NGO and student-athlete platform Health is Wealth, leading others to support refugees and the elderly. More than 900 nominations were received from 181 schools, a record, displaying the prestige and growth of the awards, which are organised by the South China Morning Post, sponsored by the Hong Kong Jockey Club and supported by the Education Bureau.
