Finding a new home is a stressful task that only becomes more daunting when the hunt extends into other areas and jurisdictions.

It is good that Hong Kong’s consumer watchdog has developed a timely solution to ease such headaches for the growing number of buyers and renters exploring the Greater Bay Area.

The Consumer Council’s one-stop website consolidates property data from Hong Kong, Macau and nine cities in Guangdong province. The central government’s bay area plan aims to integrate them into an economic and business hub.

Council chairman Clement Chan Kam-wing said the information would not only serve as a “one-way street” for Hongkongers. He hoped residents from across the bay area would log on to find facts they needed as they considered moving around or to Hong Kong.

The guide unveiled on February 5 outlines steps for purchasing both new and second-hand residential property across the region. The website includes information on documents required, regulations, and tips for renting and estate management.

Consumers will be able to find guidance about what they must pay attention to when agreeing to purchases or rentals.
