UK police arrest second man after London subway attack
The two arrests indicate police and security services believe the attack at the Parsons Green station was part of a coordinated plot, not the act of a single person
British police said Sunday they had made a second arrest in connection with the bombing of a London Underground train, as their probe into the terror attack widened.
The 21-year-old man, who has not been named, was arrested late Saturday in Hounslow, on the western rim of the capital, a statement said.
The bomb detonated in a packed train carriage Friday morning with a large explosion followed by what an eyewitness described as a “fireball”.
Later in the day, the British government lowered the country’s official terrorist threat level from “critical” to “severe”, meaning authorities no longer believe an attack is imminent.
Home Secretary Amber Rudd said the easing of the alert indicated that police and security services are making “good progress” in the sprawling investigation into the attack.
