Iranian Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has been killed, Iran’s state media has reported.

The confirmation came hours after US President Donald Trump asserted his death on social media. He called Khamenei “one of the most evil people in history” and said the strike delivers justice for Iranians, Americans and others “killed or mutilated” by him.

Iran’s government declared seven days of public holiday and 40 days of public mourning for Khamenei’s death, as the US and Israeli strikes entered a second day.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said “the most devastating offensive operation in the history of the Islamic Republic will begin in moments”, targeting Israel and the US bases in the Middle East.

Earlier Iranian media reported on Sunday that the daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter of Khamenei were killed in US and Israeli airstrikes.

“After establishing contact with informed sources in the Supreme Leader’s household, the news of the martyrdom of the daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter of the Revolutionary Leader has unfortunately been confirmed,” the Fars News Agency reported.

“This is the single greatest chance for the Iranian people to take back their Country,” Trump said.
