A 10-year-old boy in China has been nicknamed a real-life Ne Zha after he secretly went fishing on a boat, got lost at sea and miraculously survived after drifting for 24 hours.

A tourist fishing ship in China’s southern island province Hainan discovered the boy adrift at sea and rescued him on March 22.

The boy, called Liang, said he had been cast adrift at sea for a day and a night. He said he went fishing but could not find his way home.

That home turned out to be 30km away.

Liang’s survival has been considered a miracle, as it was pure chance that he did not drift hopelessly far from shore. He said he shouted at other passing ships but they did not hear him.

His parents searched for him for the whole night, and reported him missing to the police. They said he secretly took the boat from a scenic spot near their village.
