China boy informs police about dad having poppy husks after being scolded over homework
Anti-narcotics unit takes over investigation from local police after son seeks ‘revenge’ on dad over pressure to perform well academically
A Chinese boy reported his father to the police for illegally storing poppy husks after being reprimanded for not finishing his homework, amusing many netizens and sparking a humorous discussion online.
In China, the intense pressure and competitiveness of college entrance exams often prompt teachers and schools to assign an overwhelming amount of homework in an effort to boost students’ academic performance.
However, this well-intentioned practice can sometimes backfire, unintentionally placing a strain on family relationships and taking a toll on the mental health of parents, especially when children struggle to meet their expectations.
One such case took place on January 9, when a 10-year-old boy, who is a primary school student, from Yongning county, Ningxia Hui autonomous region, in northwestern China, became the centre of a police investigation after inadvertently putting his father in hot water.
The boy, whose name has not been disclosed, was harshly reprimanded by his father for not completing his homework.
