A Chinese company which sent staff to photograph its employees using the toilet and posted the photos of the act to warn against using the bathroom for too long has sparked an online backlash and legal concerns.

The Lixun Diansheng company in Shenzhen, southern China’s Guangdong province, was reported on January 20 to have printed and posted photos of several of its employees using the toilet on the wall of the restroom.

They did so as a punishment for the employees who smoked and played mobile games in the toilet.

The staff ostensibly occupied the toilet for too long, and would not answer the door when a staff member knocked on it, so the staff stood on a ladder and used their phone to snap the photos.

The company said it also made the photos public to warn against such behaviour.

The company also said it banned smoking in its restrooms.
