Taiwan tourist in Japan criticised for shaking trees to create ‘cherry blossom rain’ for photos
Surprisingly, her child, standing next to her, starts imitating the action by hitting other branches

A Taiwanese tourist faced intense online backlash after vigorously shaking cherry blossom trees in Japan to create a romantic “cherry blossom rain” for photos.
The unidentified woman was criticised for lacking public decency and “damaging Taiwan’s international image.”
The incident came to public attention through a recent post on Threads, where a netizen shared a video of their experience at the famous Todai-ji Temple in Nara, Japan, showcasing the cherry blossoms.
According to the post, a woman from Taiwan, wearing sunglasses, was prominently seen shaking the branches of a cherry blossom tree with considerable force.
She aimed to craft a picturesque scene of falling petals, akin to “cherry blossom rain”, to enhance her photos.
Shockingly, her child, who accompanied her, began mimicking the behaviour by slapping other branches as well.
