Chinese ‘3-knives girl’ martial arts prodigy, guardian for ‘country, family, myself’

Skilled teenage girl shows remarkable dexterity with ornamental knives, says she is determined to preserve China’s rich martial arts heritage

A 14-year-old Chinese martial arts prodigy who is skilled in her use of three knives has gone viral because of her dedication and passion for her craft.

Born in 2010, Xu Yuxi, from Putian, Fujian province in southern China, who has been dubbed the “Three-Knives Girl”, has also struck a major chord because she says the trio of ornamental weapons symbolise the country, the family and herself.

She has recently captivated the internet with her viral videos showcasing her mastery of the particular martial art, earning her the nickname.

Xu developed a deep passion for traditional Chinese martial arts from a young age and currently trains at the Huangyan Martial Arts Centre in Putian.

In a viral video, Xu, dressed in traditional Chinese attire, wields ornamental hairpins as knives, performing swift and fluid movements with remarkable precision and power.

The “knives” she uses are traditionally known as Three Hairpins or San Tiao Zan in Chinese.
