Horace Beacham, whose Chinese name is Bai Handa, was jogging in the Jiangxi Qianjin Binshui park in Wuxi, eastern China’s Jiangsu province on January 17, when he heard a woman calling for help from the river.

She appeared to have accidentally fallen into the water.

Beacham dashed towards her, and reached out to her through the rails, with half of his body hanging out above the river.

He said that he could have pulled her up, but he did not want to hurt her, so he supported her weight under her armpits while calling for other passers-by to help.
