Power failure halts trams running between Hong Kong’s Wan Chai and Admiralty
Disruption comes after westbound line between North Point terminus and Tin Lok Lane halted for several hours on Monday
Tram services between Wan Chai and Admiralty in Hong Kong were suspended on Tuesday night because of a power failure, the second such incident in two days.
The Transport Department issued a special traffic bulletin at 9.37pm, saying that Hong Kong Tramways had notified it that eastbound and westbound services between Admiralty MTR station and Tonnochy Road had been suspended because of an electricity fault. The department said at 11.58pm that normal services had resumed.
The disruption was the second in consecutive days.
On Monday night, westbound services between North Point terminus and Tin Lok Lane were suspended at about 6pm following a power failure. Services resumed at 11.30pm.
A Hong Kong Tramways spokeswoman said an initial investigation by its engineering team had found that the two incidents involved different parts of its power supply system and were unrelated.
“The incident on Monday night was caused by a sudden fault in the overhead power line system, while the incident on Tuesday night resulted from a fault in the underground power supply cable system,” she said.
