Hong Kong’s Cathay monitoring cyberattack on Europe system after flight delayed
Airline says flight from Brussels to Hong Kong was affected by attack, which has disrupted operations at major European airports, including Heathrow
The airline said in a statement on Sunday that flight CX294, travelling from Brussels to Hong Kong, had been affected by the cyberattack, which has disrupted operations at several major European airports, including London’s Heathrow.
“Cathay Pacific is aware of the incident and is closely monitoring the situation,” it said. “Currently, the incident only affects our check-in system at Brussels Airport.”
It added that the flight, which was scheduled to depart Brussels at 1.25pm local time on Saturday, was delayed as a result.
“Our local airport services team immediately provided necessary assistance to the affected customers, and the flight departed for Hong Kong at 4.32pm local time on the same day,” it said.
The cyberattack targeted Collins Aerospace, which provides systems for several airlines at airports around the world. According to global media reports, at least 29 departures and arrivals were cancelled.
