Workers flee as thick smoke spews from Cathay headquarters in Hong Kong
Hundreds of employees evacuated to outdoor area at Cathay City on Lantau Island

The carrier clarified a day later that the fire originated from a back-office floor instead of its flight simulator facilities as had been suggested by sources earlier.
Police received a report at 4.40pm on Wednesday about smoke originating from a flight simulator at Cathay Pacific City on Lantau Island.

Hundreds of employees were evacuated to an outdoor area. No injuries were reported.
Fire engines and an ambulance were on standby at the scene.
Cathay confirmed a small fire occurred at its headquarters this afternoon, prompting the safe evacuation of all employees.
“Cathay’s operations were not impacted and access to Cathay City has since resumed,” a company spokesman said.
