Hong Kong’s Lion Rock Tunnel fully reopens after closure caused by truck fire
Container truck had just exited the tunnel when another driver noticed the blaze
Hong Kong’s Lion Rock Tunnel fully reopened to traffic on Friday afternoon after earlier being closed because of a southbound container truck catching fire.
The Transport Department said the fast lane of the Kowloon-bound tunnel tube reopened to all traffic at around 4.58pm. The slow lane reopened nearly 40 minutes earlier. But the department warned that it would take time for traffic to disperse.
The 1.4km (0.87 mile) tunnel had earlier been closed to all traffic.
A source said the southbound truck had just exited the tunnel near Kowloon Tong at around 3.39pm when another driver noticed the blaze.
When police arrived, they found that the rear of the truck was on fire.
Fire services extinguished the blaze at around 3.50pm, the source said.
