Hong Kong police have arrested a 66-year-old minibus driver after his vehicle hit and killed a pedestrian outside a shopping centre.

Police said the vehicle hit the female pedestrian, 47, as it turned off Lung Poon Road into a minibus terminal at the Plaza Hollywood shopping centre in Diamond Hill at around 10.55am on Wednesday.

The woman suffered multiple injuries and was taken unconscious to United Christian Hospital in Kwun Tong, where she was pronounced dead just before 1pm.

A police spokesman said the minibus driver, who passed a breathalyser test, was detained on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death.

Police appealed to witnesses or anyone with information to contact officers on 3661 0264.

Separately, a police constable was injured in the abdomen when a Fire Services Department van hit his motorcycle on Lai Chi Kok Road in Mong Kok at around 9.29am.
