A Hong Kong taxi hit a female pedestrian and slammed into railings in Central on Sunday morning, causing the woman to fall down a near-vertical drop and land on the street below while the vehicle was left balancing precariously over the edge above.
Police arrested the 44-year-old cabby on suspicion of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm.
The force said it received a report of a crash at around 10.40am, with a taxi hitting and damaging part of a four-metre-long railing and kerb on Lower Albert Road.
The taxi was left balancing precariously with its front half hanging over Ice House Street and its rear wheels off the ground.
Police said the taxi was travelling on the eastbound lane down Lower Albert Road when it hit a passer-by, railings and the kerb after the driver lost control of his vehicle.
The force said the 28-year-old foreign woman fell five metres from Lower Albert Road onto Ice House Street and hurt her right leg.

Debris also fell on the street below and hit another taxi, driven by a 61-year-old man.
Rescue services rushed to the scene and the 44-year-old cabby and the woman were taken to Queen Mary Hospital in Pok Fu Lam. The driver passed a breathalyser test for alcohol. He has been detained for questioning.


The accident was among three involving taxis on Sunday.
In a separate accident, three drivers were injured in Sham Shui Po when a private car and a taxi collided at a junction, with a parked vehicle then hit.
Police said they received a report at around 2.30pm that a northbound private car on Yu Chau Street collided at the intersection with a taxi heading east along Maple Street.
The private vehicle then crashed into another car parked on Yu Chau Street.
Three men, aged between 29 and 62, were sent to Caritas Medical Centre in Sham Shui Po suffering from chest and shoulder pain and headache.
Heavy showers were battering the city amid an amber rainstorm warning at the time of the first accident. The warning signal indicates heavy rain of 30mm an hour has fallen or is expected to fall.
A third accident in the evening involved a hybrid taxi and another cab in Kowloon City. The hybrid vehicle, travelling along Junction Road towards Lok Fu, flipped over near Franki Centre after colliding with the cab, which was making a turn onto Kam Shing Road from the opposite side, at 7.43pm.
The driver and a female passenger in the hybrid taxi sustained minor injuries and were taken by ambulance to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Yau Ma Tei for treatment.
No one was injured in the other cab.
The crashes were the latest involving taxis.
On May 15, a taxi driver surnamed Yeung, 52, died after he passed out behind the wheel and hit a kerb in Tuen Mun.
A cabby was also among two people arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run in March involving a taxi that collided with a motorcyclist, who was then run over by a private car in Cheung Sha Wan.
The Transport and Logistics Bureau revealed last week that the number of taxi accidents jumped 26 per cent to 4,585 last year from 3,632 in 2022 and 4,153 in 2021.
