As spring approaches and temperatures begin to climb, Hong Kong’s cherry blossoms are preparing to burst into full bloom.
Within the next week or two, Hongkongers can enjoy this spectacle without leaving the city.
The South China Morning Post lists the best spots in the city to enjoy cherry blossoms and how to get there.
1. How to catch cherry blossoms near Hong Kong airport?
The cherry blossom garden run by the Airport Authority has expanded with 39 new trees, bringing the total to 160.
Steven Yiu Siu-chung, the authority’s executive director of airport operations, said on Thursday that while only 20 to 30 per cent of the flowers were currently blooming, the peak was expected in the week leading up to Valentine’s Day.
The garden also serves as a good spot to snap photos of both cherry blossoms and Ngong Ping 360’s cable cars.
To get there, take the MTR to Tung Chung station, where the authority has built a pavement with direct access to the garden, reducing the walking distance by 200 metres (656 feet).
Bus stops close to the garden include Aviation Fuel Tank Farm and Chek Lap Kok South Road.

2. Are there other cherry blossom hotspots?
Another popular hotspot is On King Street Park in Shek Mun, Sha Tin.
Cherry blossoms in the park have reached full bloom, according to the Leisure and Cultural Services Department’s flower appreciation website.
Some visitors are known to bring along their pet birds for photos, creating unique opportunities for snapping photos of both animals and flowers.
The park by the Shing Mun River is home to more than 100 cherry blossom trees, according to the department.
It is a 15-minute walk from Shek Mun MTR station.
If you do not want to walk that long, take a bus and alight at Garden Vista or Ravana Garden stops – served by multiple lines linking to Hong Kong Island and beyond.
3. Where else can the blossoms be found?
Cherry blossoms can be found more or less all over Hong Kong.
Social media users have spotted the pink and white flowers in different locations, from On Lai Court in Kwun Tong to Yuen Long Park in the northwest of the city.
The flowers can also be found on some university campuses, including at the Chinese University of Hong Kong’s New Asia College and the University of Hong Kong’s University Lodge.
4. Is the weather good to see the flowers?
You will have to wait until next week to enjoy cherry blossoms under a blue sky.
According to the Hong Kong Observatory, the weather will be mostly cloudy with occasional rain from Friday through the weekend.
The weather will improve on Monday with longer sunny spells that are expected to last until at least the next weekend.
