Exclusive | Indonesian team aims to get bodies of 9 helpers killed in Hong Kong fire home soon
Filipino envoy in city also says Manila can move ‘quickly’ once Hong Kong has processed the necessary papers for worker killed in blaze

An Indonesian foreign ministry delegation in Hong Kong is hoping to expedite the repatriation of the bodies of nine helpers who died in the devastating Tai Po fire two weeks ago, with the country’s consulate also praising its nationals’ resilience in the face of tragedy.
The Indonesian team joined the Philippines’ top diplomat in Hong Kong and three other consulate officials in a meeting on Monday with various city authorities, including police and the labour, home affairs, health and immigration departments.
“Indonesians are known for their resilience,” the consulate said on Tuesday.
“Working and living in Hong Kong come with their own ups and downs, but as we have seen over and over again, many of our nationals manage to prevail – their hard work turns into achievements and their achievements turn into motivational success stories for their community, be it here in Hong Kong or back home.”

The Indonesian delegation was jointly led by Fithonatul Mar’ati, acting consul general in Hong Kong, and Secretary for Protocol and Consular Affairs Heni Hamidah.
