Explainer | What events and deals are on offer for National Day celebrations in Hong Kong?
Here are some of the special events, transport freebies and dining discounts that will help celebrate the anniversary
Hong Kong will celebrate the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China on Wednesday, with locals and tourists expected to make 8.8 million cross-border trips across the National Day holiday week, a 20 per cent increase over last year’s figure.
As the city prepares for the celebrations, the Post lists activities and offers on October 1, from free public transport rides and restaurant promotions to a series of activities.
1. What events are being held to celebrate?
A flag-raising ceremony will be held at 8am at Golden Bauhinia Square in Wan Chai, attended by Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu and senior government officials. No public viewing area will be set up.
A helicopter formation fly-past by the Government Flying Service is scheduled at the same time near Victoria Harbour, with additional ones at 11.30am on Monday and 9am on Tuesday.
The Hong Kong Jockey Club will host a themed race at the Sha Tin Racecourse, with free admission for the public from 11.45am. The first race will begin at 1pm.
