Super Typhoon Ragasa: Hong Kong T10 signal to remain in force ‘for some time’
Ragasa could become the strongest typhoon in the city’s history

Hong Kong is being lashed by hurricane-force winds and heavy rain as Super Typhoon Ragasa edges closer to the city, with the Observatory upgrading the storm warning to the highest-level No 10 signal at 2.40am on Wednesday, just one hour after issuing the No 9 alert.
Maximum sustained wind speeds near Ragasa’s centre earlier reached 220km/h (137mph).
The forecaster has warned the weather will be “persistently adverse” on Wednesday with frequent heavy showers and thunderstorms, while seas will be rough with swells and overtopping waves over the shoreline, which will be particularly significant along the eastern and southern coasts.
Ragasa will be closest to the vicinity of the Pearl River Delta on Wednesday morning and winds will further strengthen, it says.
The Observatory issued the No 8 signal at 2.20pm on Tuesday and the No 9 warning at 1.40am on Wednesday.
All kindergarten, primary and secondary school classes for Wednesday have been cancelled. At least 700 flights have also been cancelled.
