A second Hong Kong tour group member has died following a crash on a scenic highway in Xinjiang last week that left two others injured.

The Travel Industry Authority said a member of the tour organised by Travel Circle International (TCI) died on Monday. The first person was killed on the night of the accident in the far-western region of mainland China last Wednesday.

The authority expressed deep sorrow over the casualties and said it would continue to work closely with the travel agency to follow up on arrangements and provide all possible support and help to the affected tour members and their families.

The Immigration Department said it had been coordinating with the Hong Kong government’s office in Beijing, the Travel Industry Authority and the agency to monitor the situation and offer help.

It said staff from the office’s immigration team had arrived at the scene to accompany the families and provide appropriate advice and help.
