A 41-year-old man was found dead on the balcony of a Hong Kong building in the aftermath of a fire in Sham Shui Po on Thursday, police said.

The Post learned that the deceased was a cameraman at free-to-air broadcaster TVB’s news department and has reached out to the company for comment.

A police spokesman said the force received reports of a fire at 4.08am on Thursday, with the blaze breaking out on the 28th floor of a residential building on Yee Kuk Street.

He added that one of the people who had called police was the resident of a flat that had caught fire, saying he was trapped in a room.

Police later confirmed that the deceased was a resident at the flat and said his cause of death would be determined after an autopsy.

Officers at the scene reported seeing smoke and flames, and hearing the sound of an explosion.

The force said firefighters had not found anyone inside the flat when they first entered, but later discovered a man lying on the balcony of an apartment on a lower floor.
