A son of late Hong Kong billionaire Lee Shau-kee has said relatives “could not bear to say goodbye” to him, while the family thanked members of the public for their heartfelt tributes to the property magnate who helped shape the city’s business and philanthropic landscape.

At around 9am on Monday, Lee’s children appeared at the entrance of the Hong Kong Funeral Home in North Point, where they briefly stopped for commemorative photos.

Eldest son Peter Lee Ka-kit stood alongside younger son Martin Lee Ka-shing and his wife, Cathy Chui Lee. They were joined by younger daughters Liza Lee Pui-ling and Susanna Lee Pui-yee, as well as eldest daughter Margaret Lee Pui-man and her husband, Li Ning.

“We could not bear to say goodbye to our father, and neither could our entire family. But he was nearly 100 years old,” said Martin Lee, as he and his brother met the press after the funeral ended at around 12.50pm.

“He was surrounded by the whole family and passed away peacefully.”

Martin Lee thanked the residents who came to pay tribute to his father.
