Hongkongers can expect a cooler weekend due to a cold front moving across southern China on Saturday, according to the local forecaster.

In a forecast published on Tuesday, the Hong Kong Observatory said that temperatures on Saturday would reach as low as 19 degrees Celsius (66.2 Fahrenheit) before hitting a minimum of 18 degrees on Sunday.

The forecaster attributed the cooler weather to a trough of low pressure that would form over central China in the run-up to the weekend and develop into a cold front.

“The cold front is expected to move across Guangdong on Saturday,” it said. “The associated showers and squally thunderstorms will affect the region.”

On Tuesday, mercury readings in Hong Kong ranged from 21 to 27 degrees. The weather is also expected to be warm, humid and misty over the next few days.
