Kai Tak Stadium has become the new home of the Hong Kong Sevens, with more than 130,000 spectators expected to flock to the venue in the coming days for the latest edition of the annual sporting event.
Whether you are a regular patron getting to grips with the new venue or a first-time Sevens spectator, the Post shares how you can get to the event.
1. How can I get to Kai Tak by train?
One of the easiest ways to reach Kai Tak Sports Park’s 50,000-seat stadium is by using the city’s MTR network.
Spectators can take the Tuen Ma line, also known as the “brown line”, to either Kai Tak or Sung Wong Toi station and then follow the signs to the stadium.
Authorities have promised that the MTR Corporation will boost rail services for the tournament, so rugby fans can use the same route to get home.


2. How about buses and taxis?
If you are planning on taking the bus, you are in luck.
According to the park operator, there are more than 60 bus routes with stops near the venue.
The Kowloon City Ferry Bus Terminus is a 12-minute walk away from the stadium.
Another option is the bus stop on Mok Cheong Street, which is a mere six-minute walk from the venue.
Spectators can also pick from 10 special bus routes arranged by authorities to help fans travel to their homes, hotels or next party destination.
For example, franchised bus operator Citybus will offer route SP2A after matches to transport spectators from Kai Tak to a station near Knutsford Terrace in Tsim Sha Tsui, which is brimming with bars and restaurants.
The SP10 route will take passengers to nightlife districts on Hong Kong Island, including Wan Chai and Lan Kwai Fong.
Patrons can take a cab to the drop-off zone on Ching Kai Road. To head out again, patrons can use the taxi rank on Sung Wong Toi Road.
Some taxi firms have also jumped on the Hong Kong Sevens bandwagon by offering discounts to passengers going to and from Kai Tak Stadium. SynCab, for example, is offering customers up to 7 per cent off on all trips to and from the sports venue.
3. Can I drive to the Hong Kong Sevens?
Authorities are encouraging patrons not to drive to the Hong Kong Sevens as parking will not be provided at the sports park during the event. Spectators are instead urged to use public transport.


4. Are there items I cannot bring into the stadium?
Hong Kong China Rugby, the event’s organiser, has reminded rugby fans to check its list of prohibited items before heading to the event.
Banned items include weapons, inflated lighter-than-air objects and balls, as well as outside food and drinks.
5. What about food?
Hungry patrons have more than 30 dining facilities to choose from inside the venue. For more options, spectators can also head over to the nearby Kai Tak Mall.
6. How should visitors deal with cool or rainy weather?
According to the Hong Kong Observatory on Thursday, the weather on Friday is forecast to be mainly cloudy with a few showers. Temperatures are expected to range between 21 and 29 degree Celsius (70 to 84 Fahrenheit).
The mercury will drop on Saturday to between 17 and 21 degrees, with a few patches of rain.
Those attending the Sevens should consider bringing a jacket and a small umbrella, as the stadium’s retractable roof will be open on Saturday and Sunday.
