Tickets for Jay Chou concerts at Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Stadium sell out in a flash

Fans trying to buy tickets online for June shows at new 50,000-seat stadium hit with wait of more than hour, with website later updating to say they were sold out

Tickets for Taiwanese superstar Jay Chou’s coming concerts at Hong Kong’s new stadium sold out within the first two hours of going on sale on Friday, with buyers experiencing virtual queues of more than an hour.

A Post reporter logged onto the website of distributor Cityline and clicked the link to buy a ticket when sales began at 3pm, only to be met with information that the waiting time was more than an hour.

Just before 4.30pm, the page refreshed again, noting all tickets for the shows at Kai Tak Stadium were gone.

A round of presales for users of certain HSBC credit cards took place in December, with tickets also snapped up within minutes.

British rock band Coldplay will perform on April 8, 9, 11 and 12, while Cantopop star Nicholas Tse Ting-fung will take the stage the same month on the 25th and 26th, making him the first local musician to perform at the city’s largest concert venue. Tickets for his shows also went on sale on Friday and quickly sold out.
