Hongkongers aged 60 or above will need personalised JoyYou Cards for HK$2 fare from Sunday
- MTR Corp reminds eligible people to submit their card applications as soon as possible because the process can take about four weeks
Hongkongers aged 60 or above must use personalised JoyYou Cards to enjoy a subsidised HK$2 (26 US cents) fare starting on Sunday under a public transport concession scheme, authorities have said.
The MTR Corporation said on Tuesday it would gradually deploy additional staff at some stations, especially those frequently used by elderly residents, to promote the new arrangement and hand out application forms for the cards
“Since it takes about four weeks to apply for the JoyYou Card, eligible people who have not yet applied will not be able to enjoy the HK$2 concession fare this Sunday,” a spokesman said.
“The MTR Corp would like to once again remind eligible people who have not yet applied to submit their applications for the JoyYou Card as soon as possible.”
The government developed the JoyYou Card application scheme in 2022 to give public transport fare concessions to residents aged 65 or above, as well as people with disabilities.
After two years of transition, the Transport Department reminded the public on its website that the cards were required for those who would like to enjoy the discount starting Sunday.
