A former Post data specialist has died in a stand-up paddling accident in the waters off Lamma Island.
Jude Law Kai-yiu, who was employed by the Post from 2017 to 2019 as a growth specialist, was found unconscious at the Lamma Power Station Beach at around 9pm Saturday.
He was later sent to Queen Mary Hospital, where he was certified dead at around 10.30pm.
Police said initial investigations suggested the 30-year-old Law had accidentally drowned while engaging in water activities.
An autopsy will be carried out to determine the cause of death, with the force classifying the case as a “drowning incident”.
Law’s girlfriend, who stand-up paddled with him 200 metres (656 feet) off the coast on Saturday, left the site for home at around 6.30pm that day, with Law expected to join her later on.
She contacted police and reported Law missing after waiting for him for two hours.

A graduate of Baptist University with a degree in business administration, Law had helped grow global readership through search engine optimisation and content strategy development during his time at the Post.
Shea Driscoll, the Post’s digital editor and Law’s former supervisor, said the death of his easy-going former colleague was “tragic”.
“He made great contributions to kick-starting the Post’s YouTube channel, and was involved in many other experiments and efforts to help the Post grow,” he said.
“I remember his initiative and him being fearless in approaching anyone and everyone to try different ways to help the publication.”
After leaving the Post in June 2019, Law established his own data consultancy firm Technalect in April 2020, which specialises in growth marketing, YouTube optimisation and search engine optimisation.
He had also served as a mentor at the Hong Kong Design Centre from August 2023.
